July 1, 2017: OPD Travelers, welcome back from Vancouver and Victoria. It was tons of fun and excitement! And of course, CONGRATULATIONS to our Tiger Sharks for bringing home GOLD! It was indeed a tough 2-day competition in Vancouver but hard work paid off again. Despite the lack of sleep, the heat, and the skipped lunches with back to back races for all of us, Tiger Sharks pulled it off with a breath-taking strategic surge through the finish line, winning gold by a dragon hair. It was such a proud and joyous moment for the racers to receive the gold medals, which made the rest of the trip all the more enjoyable. Let's all keep up the tough training for the upcoming races.
In that spirit, we are holding an additional Independence Day practice on Tuesday, July 4th from 9 to 11 am. Please be on time; weather permitting, we plan to leave the sea wall as soon as possible.

Congratulations also to all the new paddlers who experienced racing for the first time, especially the new Tiger Sharks. A special thank-you to our Captain, to the coaches, the steers, the drummers, and all the volunteers who made that day special and fun! Thank you for the great food!

March 20, 2017: Safety Training at Rossi Pool - Thank you for participating in yesterday's Safety Training at Rossi Pool. Thank you, Rob, for lending us your boat. It was indeed an exciting and fun session. Lessons learned: stay calm, find your paddling partner, swim quickly to the boat as a team, and exit the water quickly. As also demonstrated, a snug-fitting PFD is very important. Last but not least, learning how to handle a throw-rope is critical in reaching a paddler in distress. The well-deserved post-training team picnic was also fun and relaxing. A big Thank-You to all the volunteers and to the Rossi Pool Staff.

November 28, 2016: OPD is currently in off-season for boat maintenance. As previously announced, we need to maintain our health through a balanced and healthy lifestyle in order to take care of our body and refresh our spirit. So, let's keep Healthy Living in the forefront during the off-season, which will bring increased energy into the next paddling season.
To close its 2016 season, OPD welcomed team members from Frisco Bay Volleyball (Frisco) on Sunday, November 27. Frisco is dedicated in the development and training of Junior Olympic athletes, and shares the same teamwork values with OPD. It was a wonderful and fun event for everyone. See photos on the side.
November 19, 2016: A few words of gratitude and reflection...
As we close this night ... Wow, what a night it was as we celebrated yet another successful year of paddling and healthy living! Thank you and Congratulations to the entire OPD Family for a wonderful, memorable, and fun celebration. Reflecting on the team's accomplishments throughout this year and already planning on 2017 events brought a lot of joy into everyone's heart.
Check out our 'Practice Updates' box above; we've added some bonus paddling sessions before we close out the 2016 season and embark on the start of the holiday season.
The off-season is also a time for us to pull our boats into dry dock for maintenance. Healthy Living, however, does not need to be pulled into dry dock but continues on and on. As beautifully put in French: "Il faut garder une hygiene de vie saine et équilibrée afin d'entretenir notre corps et aérer notre esprit," which simply means "we need to maintain our health through a balanced and healthy lifestyle in order to take care of our body and refresh our spirit."
So, let's keep our Healthy Living in the forefront during the off-season, which will bring increased energy into the next paddling season. In addition, let's all feel and express gratitude for our daily blessings, which is part of our Healthy Living and which contributes to personal happiness. Let's not wait until Thanksgiving to be thankful but instead continue to have a 'Be-Thankful-Every-Single-Day' mind. Let's also remember to never take anyone or anything for granted; 'ephemeral' comes to mind. As we've traveled the world and learned about some countries where our fellow paddlers have to go way above and beyond to "make and stay on a team" in order the enjoy the benefits of paddling and competing around the world, we on the other hand, are fortunate and blessed to have resources and choices.
Congratulations on choosing to be healthy and let's continue paddling for health!
